PLEASE PRINT, READ AND BRING THIS POST WITH YOU ON FRIDAY TO REBARCAMPTO!

Attending REBarCampTO

academymapIf you’ve never been to an REBarCamp before, don’t worry! Most people attending the Toronto event this Friday are going to be in same boat. Most will be new to the un-conference experience.

Each REBarCamp tends to have their own personality because the day is determined by the attendees–you suggest topics that you would like to learn more about. Here are a few quick tips on what you may want to know before attending the REBarCamp coming up this Friday at the Academy of Spherical Arts .

Dress  comfortably. You’ll be walking from session to session and to lunch…to and from parking. This is all about being real comfortable.

Feel Free to make a donation on our Web Site.We are a sponsored event but left over funds will be used for the next REBarCampTO or given to the REALTORS Care Foundation.

Come early!  Show Up sharp at 8:00 a.m. The Toronto Real Estate Board and its Commercial Division are hosting the location and breakfast for all attendees.  Show up, get your coffee, visit with friends and start suggesting your topics!

The Venue. We are at the Academy of Spherical Arts, have Wi-Fi, will havea live feed and Twitter going at #REBCTO. There will be some extra electrical for Laptops.  Juice, Coffee and Water will be available all day.

Registration. When you arrive you will be directed to the Registration area where you will be given a lanyard and a badge to fill out Courtesy of Iconica. Please be ready with your name and Twitter handle.

What do you want to learn?   Is it basic or advanced social media?  Is there something going on in the real estate biz that has nothing to do with social media?  It’s all good–suggest a topic…start thinking now and write it down.   When you arrive Friday morning, your great idea might escape you so please do bring some notes in advance. See any of the organizers to have your ideas posted.

The Agenda. At 8:45 or there about the Organizers will give the participants a quick run-down of what to expect and how REBarcamps work (kind of like this post). The agenda will be a big taped grid on a couple of white boards for all to see. You’ll be visiting them often throughout the day as the agenda may change. From all the ideas for topics submitted by the attendees, we will develop a schedule for the day. Each session will run about 45 minutes with 15 minute breaks for you to revisit the agenda and get to your next session. Please remember that selling is frowned upon at REBarCamps so there is no selling of products onsite. However, we are a  sponsored event so we would ask that you graciously thank our sponsors when possible.

Again–the agenda may change…sessions may be moved to a different room so don’t worry about planning your entire day when you first see the agenda.

Sessions.    REBarcamp sessions are for the most part, are lead or moderated by your peers. The best learning takes place the more people get involved and share their knowledge and what works for them. You have the option of sitting back and learning–getting involved, asking questions and sharing will create the richest learning environment.   It’s not about one person “teaching” or “presenting”.   You may have some sessions which can turn out that way. Each session is unique. You have the power to be as involved as you want to be and you also have the power to “vote with your feet” if a session you’re attending does not seem beneficial to you–you are welcomed to check out a different one. After all, there will be 5 different sessions running at the same time. You can suggest new topics throughout the day–REBarcamp is  totally what YOU make of it.

Lunch.  There is a sponsored lunch by RE/Max Ontario Atlantic. They are “Bag” lunches and with the beautiful weather we should have, you just might want to eat outside.    The Liberty Village area is also filled with options should you choose.  The lunch break is scheduled for 11:45-1:00 pm.

Parking. There is a ton of Parking on the block to the south of the Academy. Check the map on the site for the “Green P” Parking.

The event wraps up at 4:00 pm. However, the Bars will open at the Academy and the Pool tables will be available for a game or two. Enjoy the venue but remember, most of you will be driving after, so please act accordingly.

Please remember that your RSVP means that you are taking a position of someone else who might have wanted to come. Please respect that commitment, add value and engage with other attendees.

We hope you will enjoy the experience of REBarCampTO. It is up to all of you to make it a great Event!

The Organizers: Shirley Porter, Evan Sage, Brad Sage and Richard Silver.

I attended REBarCampTO, on Friday May 7th, and I was very impressed. I loved how well organized you were. I learned so much about Social Media that I left totally exhilarated by the experience. The information in the sessions was very useful, the topics were great and the Presenters were tops, coming from all over North America. How do you do it?

    Thanks very much REBarCampTO,
    David Baldwin
